RECAP
Sun, March 2, 2008 - 1:10 PM
It was short, but sweet. The runners went through well over 4 dozen donuts and almost a 30 case of Tecate in 2 hours.
This was my first time. At first, I didn't quite understand the concept, but after seeing the expressions on the runner's faces as we dangled Glazed Donuts and Frosty Beer in front of them, it all became perfectly clear how this is an annual tradition.
We were interviewed by some reporter of the LA Times, and later we were interrupted by some rookie cops for handing out closed container beers to adults only... Overall, I would say it turned out well. I enjoyed hanging out with all nine of you who showed and participated. (Reecy is a wild vixen on the Megaphone!) I also saw someone taking pictures - Please post!
Fnord!

Sun, March 2, 2008 - 11:35 PMI just uploaded the few pictures I got to the CS tribe. Seriously, I would use a megaphone ALL THE TIME if I had one (so maybe it's best that I don't). Enjoy! -

Mon, March 3, 2008 - 10:27 AMIs Chicken John going to denounce us for becoming a human interest story?
The link to the LA Times Article is here:
www.latimes.com/news/local...38269.story
The section on us reads:
"Members of the Los Angeles Cacophony Society dangled doughnuts on fishing poles and offered cans of beer to the runners. "We're giving people what they want," said Joe Borfo. The society, which has been attending the marathon for a decade, has previously offered fried chicken, poetry readings and lap dances."

Probably. And soon they'll be offering us our own sitcoms on network teevee! -

Re: RECAP
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 1:59 PMIt'll be a busy week for Chicken John. He's gonna have to kill me too. I discussed a similar idea to this one back in the early 90's when I lived on the Big Big Island and we used to help with the Iron Man. I never did anything other than talk about it. I didn't even drive down to LA and help. Kill me, please Chicken John. -

Re: RECAP
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 11:53 PMIn '89, when I ran it, the LA Marathon didn't have any beer or donuts for me, but I did go home afterwards and slam a few beers and bongloads. Marathons are so cool. And I'm going to run another one just as soon as I can rebuild my ankles, knees, back, neck, and nervous system.
