I was at my local megabookstore the other day, and there was a young man wandering around the store, casually reading aloud from a poetry book. I found it a smidgen disconcerting at first, but really reveled in the concept after a moment. This inspired me - how fantastic would it be to have a large bookstore full of people reading aloud from their favorite books? French poetry! Eastern philosophy! Trashy romance novels! C++ programming! The Bible! Richard Dawkins! I suppose it would be along the lines of a flash mob, but more literate. Or perhaps a large group could convene in the children's books section to be read aloud to.

Wed, January 16, 2008 - 2:50 PMAn idea practiced when I was barefoot and broke - wander the libraries and bookstores, placing appropiate (?) comics. xerox snippets or hand notes into books every where. Anonymous gifts. enjoyed the whole matching of the gift to the book creativity.
